Haydn has nearly 30 years international management experience that more recently has included managing large infrastructure portfolios in the public sector. Haydn is considered one of the country’s leading authorities in public policy that supports investments in public infrastructure. From 2014 to 2016 he was the Programme Director and author of the NZ Treasury funded New Zealand Asset Metadata Standards for all public infrastructures. He also headed up the Smart Cities / Smart Nation Programme for the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment. Today he is Head of Infrastructure Programmes at Auckland Council’s DPO. His interest now lies within government policy that enables smart infrastructure and the possibilities inherent in new technologies, big data, analytics and evidence-based investment decisions in public infrastructure. His application of these technologies has provided the capacity to transform the design, construction and management of infrastructure assets across a wide range of built environments with the social investment outcomes being sought by those investments. Haydn has a Master’s of Science from Auckland University, an MBA in International Business and Finance from Melbourne, and earlier this year completed his doctorate at Victoria University’s School of Government. The title of his thesis is – Local Government Decision-making. Haydn has recently been appointed as a Visiting Scholar (remote) to The Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy (IFSD) at the University of Ottawa in Canada.
