Professor Tim Bell

Tim Bell is a full professor in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. His main current research interest is computer science education; in the past he has been also worked on computers and music, and data compression. At a national level, Tim Bell has been active working with schools for the last two decades, including voluntarily running workshops in many regions after the 2011 release of the NCEA Computer Science and Programming Achievement Standards. His communication skills and work with schools has been recognised with the Science Communicator Award from the NZ Association of Scientists in 1999, an inaugural New Zealand Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award in 2002, the University of Canterbury Teaching medal in 2008, the University of Canterbury Innovation medal in 2012, and the IITP Excellence in IT Education award and the President’s Award for Contribution to the IT Profession in 2014.
