Building Compliance/Facilities Management Trainer
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Paula worked as a rural firefighter and park ranger in California, Idaho, and Washington State on the west coast of the United States.
Since arriving in New Zealand in 2004, she has progressed her career and professional experience working in the Facilities Management sector overseeing the day-to-day operation of commercial and public properties in Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti. In August of 2017, Paula completed work with Hutt City Council, the Territorial Authority for Lower Hutt, where she had been fulfilling the role of Building Warrant of Fitness Auditor.
She has audited hundreds of buildings, from hospitals to power stations, apartments, malls, office buildings, industrial warehouses, schools and libraries to name a few. The TA auditor role is
not only a check of the building owner’s adherence to the Building Code, but also that of the Independent Qualified Person and the accuracy of their 12A Certificates, surveys and maintenance reports. She also accompanied the Building Consent Authority-building inspectors on final inspections for issuance of the Code Compliance Certificate. Paula was there to help ensure that all building safety systems were installed and operational before opening to the public.
Having worked in both the property management and council sectors, Paula is in a unique position to offer the big picture and deliver her insights in a punchy and entertaining way.
Paula is now a professional workshop presenter on her own and also contracts to Rosie Killip’s Building Networks.
