Intensive Irrigated Farmer

Ian has a number of fully irrigated farms totaling some 520 hectares producing grain, vegetable and grass seeds, including stock finishing, a small piggery and a 350 cow dairy farm at Eiffelton, near Ashburton. The Purakaunui which runs through Ian’s farm hosts a range of native wet land species, including habitat for the critically endangered Canterbury mudfish. He has considerable experience and involvement in agriculture and water, including: - Chairperson of the Federated Farmers Arable Industry Group from 2011-2015 and was the Federation’s Environment and Water spokesperson and representative on the Land and Water Forum - Nuffield Scholar and a New Zealand Farm Environment award recipient and has held several directorships and board memberships, and is still Chairman of the Eiffelton Community Irrigation Scheme and the Ashburton Community Water Trust.
