Jon is the Group Manager Natural Resources & Partnerships Group at Horizons Regional Council. In this role he has responsibilities across the non-regulatory programmes of the Council including the Sustainable Land Use Initiative (SLUI), which is New Zealand’s largest hill country erosion management programme, and a Freshwater and Partnerships team that completes on the ground work to improve water quality through programmes like the Manawatu River Leaders’ Accord and the Lake Horowhenua Accord. The Natural Resources & Partnerships Group at Horizons also includes the Science & Innovation Team and the Biodiversity & Biosecurity function. At a national level Jon has been a part of the Land & Water Forum and the National Objectives Framework Reference Group. Jon has also been involved in a range of software development including the Water Matters tool for managing water allocation, the dairy shed effluent storage calculator that is used to provide customised advice to dairy farms across the country, and was a part of the team who developed the Land & Water Aoteroa website.
