Freshwater Ecologist


Paul Franklin is a freshwater ecologist at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) in Hamilton. After growing up and completing his studies in the UK, Paul joined NIWA nine years ago and has subsequently spent his time getting to know and love New Zealand’s unique and iconic freshwater fish communities. Over the last few years Paul’s work has focused on improving our understanding of critical habitat requirements for our whitebait species and on progressing the research and guidance required to underpin improved fish passage management in New Zealand.
