Senior Lecturer Ecology and Environmental Science
Mike Joy BSc, MSc (1st class hons), PhD in Ecology is a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Governance and Policy Studies, Victoria University, Wellington. He researches freshwater ecology, bioassessment and environmental science, and especially the linkage between science and policy. He is an outspoken advocate for environmental protection in New Zealand and has received a number of awards for this work including the Royal Society’s Charles Fleming Award for environmental achievement and the NZ Universities Critic and Conscience Award. He has authored many scientific papers and reports for the Waitangi Tribunal, NOGs, Regional Councils and Ministry for the Environment.
