The popular Food Safety & Compliance Conference continued in 2017. The event recognises New Zealand's status as a leading producer of high-quality, safe food for the world and this year's conference focused on good and consistent understanding of new regulations, up and coming initiatives for food safety and security, and other topics vital to ensuring the quality of our foods remain at an exceptional standard.

Highights included:

  • Professor Nigel French, Professor of Food & Science, Massey University focused on maintaining New Zealand's global reputation for best food safety & outcomes
  • Neil Silver, Team Leader Environmental Health, Auckland Council reported on learnings since the New Food Act came into place in 2016 and provoked lots of discussion and questions
  • Ciska de Rijk, Associate, Simpson Grierson and Principal, Essence Compliance discussed the importance of clean labelling and the fact that consumers are requiring more and more accurate information on products
  • Antoinette Laird, Head of External Relations, Foodstuffs NZ tackled crisis management with good advice for handling product recalls and similar urgent situations
  • Dr Helen Darling, Executive Director, Asia Pacific Centre for Food Integrity concluded the conference with an excellent address on ways New Zealand can work to protect and promote our established clean, safe brand
