Dr Angela Liew
Senior Lecturer and Lead Researcher in The Future of Accounting Work
University of Auckland
Angela has been teaching at the University of Auckland Business School for nearly 20 years. She is both a CA and a CPA, and a CPA Specialist in Information Technology. Besides recently graduating with a PhD in accounting which examined the use of technology for administering management control and developing new salmon/seafood products, Angela also holds a BCom in accounting, an MCom(Hons) in information systems, and a BSc in computer science, all from the University of Auckland. Her dual academic and professional experience in accounting and information technology enables her to teach and research in eccentric yet exciting accounting topics such as insights into fraud and forensic accounting, the future of accounting work and the human impacts of automation and artificial intelligence.
Simon is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 16 years’ experience in his field. After completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting & Information Systems, Simon had his first taste of Public Practice when he joined PricewaterhouseCoopers. After leaving PricewaterhouseCoopers he learned first-hand the challenges of running a business, with various roles including six years as a Chief Financial Officer and four as a General Manager. For the past five years, Simon has been working alongside business owners helping them to achieve their goals. Simon’s passion for enabling ‘kiwi’ businesses to succeed has led to the creation of RIVAL Accounting. A business with a desire to challenge small and medium-size enterprises on their growth path and offer tailored mentoring. Simon fully understands the challenges that business owners face today, and this experience is an advantage to clients.

Kirk Hope is Chief Executive of BusinessNZ, New Zealand’s largest business advocacy body, advocating for New Zealand’s success through sustainable market-led growth. Kirk previously led the New Zealand Bankers’ Association and Financial Services Federation after holding a range of senior positions at Westpac, including Head of Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs. A barrister and solicitor with a master’s degree in law focused on regulation of financial services, Kirk also holds a post graduate honours degree in political science. For five years he was a member of the Commercial and Business Law Committee of the New Zealand Law Society.
Tony Alexander graduated from Canterbury University in 1984 with a Master of Arts (Economics) degree with first class honours and after briefly working in Sydney with Westpac came back to New Zealand in 1987 to work in the financial sector. His roles have included Treasury Economist and Chief Economist at one of New Zealand’s leading banks, the Bank of New Zealand. He spends considerable time researching and writing about the New Zealand economy with special attention to SMEs, housing, China, business culture, and the role of Auckland in the NZ economy He is an accomplished public speaker much in demand and each year delivers between 50 and 100 presentations around New Zealand and offshore. Tony has possibly written more about the New Zealand economy than any other economist, having produced daily and weekly commentaries from 1987-1993, then weekly, monthly, quarterly, and many one-off pieces of analysis from 1993 through to 2019. At times he has been the most interviewed economist in New Zealand and was awarded the Residential Economist of the Year award in 2011. He spent a year and a half chatting about the economy each morning with Paul Holmes from 1992-93, and before that had a 5.30 am slot on Radio Pacific discussing exchange rates. “What I concentrate on and where my true area of expertise lies, is translating the arcane world of economic developments and trends into a language understandable by most people in the business and home buying sectors.” Each week Tony sends out his free publication “Tony’s View” discussing the state of the NZ economy, housing market, and interest rates in easy to understand language. Dr Lucy Hone
The New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing and Resilience
Dr Lucy Hone is a director of the New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing & Resilience, a research associate at AUT University, a published academic researcher, best-selling author and blogger for Psychology Today. On Queen’s Birthday weekend in 2014, the sudden death of her 12 year old daughter, Abi, (along with Lucy and Abi’s friends Ella and Sally Summerfield in a tragic road accident) forced Lucy to turn her substantial academic training and professional practice to foster resilience in very personal circumstances. The blog she wrote in the aftermath of Abi’s death attracted international attention and resulted in the best-selling non-fiction title, What Abi Taught Us: Strategies for Resilient Grieving (Allen & Unwin, 2016), now available as Resilient Grieving in the US, Australia, UK and NZ.
Dr Denise Quinlan
The New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing and Resilience
Dr Denise Quinlan is a director of the New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing and Resilience, a research fellow at the University of Otago and an adjunct Professor at the IE University, Madrid. She contributes to the development of wellbeing in education and the workplace through her research, programme development and face-to-face consulting and training. Her primary interest is the effective translation of research into practical, appropriate strategies for education and the workplace. Her interest area of strengths approaches for different cultures and minority groups is applied in her work with senior executives from global organisations and with schools with indigenous and multi-cultural populations.
Katie is the HR Director at Vodafone New Zealand, and is responsible for leading the People & Experience team to create an engaging and inclusive workplace. Katie joined Vodafone New Zealand in 2008 and has held a variety of roles including HR Business Partner, Head of Organisational Development, and Talent and Capability Manager. Prior to joining Vodafone New Zealand, Katie has worked across Australasia and Europe in a range of industries including agri-chemicals, petrochemicals, finance, law, manufacturing and retail. Katie has a Master’s degree in Science with honours, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial and Organisations Psychology with distinction from the University of Canterbury. Outside of work, Katie is a keen yoga enthusiast, and enjoys spending time at the beach with her husband and young family.
