KidsCan Charitable Trust

Kidscan

“Conferenz and Bright*Star are pleased to be a Leading Light sponsor of KidsCan. We strongly identify with KidsCan’s objectives and are thrilled to be playing our part to help make them a reality. We are a strongly family-oriented, 100% NZ-owned organisation and KidsCan’s aim to take care of the basic physical & nutritional needs of NZ’s disadvantaged children really struck a chord with us. We look forward to working closely with the KidsCan team to assist them in their goals.”
- Steve Scott, Owner

KidsCan is a charitable trust whose specific aims are to:

  • meet the basic physical needs of disadvantaged children
  • address the nutritional and hunger needs of disadvantaged children.

There are many programmes that address the educational needs of disadvantaged children. However, programmes that meet their basic physical are few and far between, and those that do exist are often conducted in an ad-hoc fashion. KidsCan believes all children should be given the chance to reach their full potential and their programmes are designed to assist them in achieving their goals.

KidsCan has formed partnerships with decile one, two and three primary schools throughout New Zealand and aims to assist more than 17,000 children each year through the "Raincoats for Kids " and "Food for Kids " initiatives.

Conferenz & Bright*Star support the Food for Kids programme

Our support provides nutritional support for over 8500 children per week.

Food for Kids

‘Food for Kids’
The ‘Food for Kids’ programme aims to provide nutritious food for disadvantaged children to reduce their hunger and improve their learning potential associated with healthy eating. The programme benefits our partner schools around New Zealand assisting over 8,500 children a week.

The need for ‘Food for Kids’ is highlighted by reports from organisations like the Auckland City Mission who report a 100% increase in distribution of food parcels over the past five years.

It is not that families have become lazier or more careless with money. The reality is most families simply do not have enough money for the basics of living.

Children at Risk

Our Children are at Risk!
NZ children are falling through the gaps! Research shows thousands of Kiwi kids have no access or limited access to the things we take for granted such as clothing to keep them warm and dry in winter and enough food to ensure they don’t go hungry. These are the children who go to school cold and wet in winter because their families simply cannot afford a raincoat and this has a significant impact on their learning ability. Children who are consistently hungry suffer from nutritional deficiencies, even mild malnutrition – impairs brain function, stunts growth, increases chronic illness and the propensity for violence and aggressive behaviour.  KidsCan believes every child has the right to a bright future and is committed to addressing these important issues and improving the lives of children who would otherwise be overlooked.

Trust Patrons

All Blacks Doug Howlett & Ali Williams are the official patrons of the KidsCan Trust generously donating their time to supporting fundraising events and activities.

Doug:

“Having played Rugby since the age of 6 I feel extremely grateful for the opportunities my parents provided for me which enabled me to fulfil my dream of becoming an All Black, representing New Zealand in its national game”. “Unfortunately not all children who grow up in this country are as fortunate as I have been and it is my goal and passion to see this change. I have joined The KidsCan Charitable Trust as an Official Patron along with Ali Williams to assist in levelling the playing field for the thousands of disadvantaged children who are in urgent need of positive intervention”.
